Many individuals may want to begin health care careers as a Nurse Aide, but lack the necessary knowledge, skills, and resources to successfully complete the clinical training and testing. Our concept is to: recruit new populations of Nurse Aides; provide remedial basic education, preparation for clinical training, improved life and employment skills, and coaching throughout clinical training; and help participants attain and retain employment.
Our current Carlisle based Nurse Aide training has entered its third year. During the first year, 12 0f 37 participants completed training and became employed as Nurse Aides (32%). In year two, 27 of 54 participants achieved employment (50%). So far in year three, we have recruited 30 participants, with 7 employed, 5 currently job prospecting, and 13 still in training. We credit the significant improvement of our success rate to the addition of more life skills training to our program, particularly self-esteem development, stress management techniques, managing conflict, study skills and team building activities.

Our Ninth Pre-Clinical and Home Health Aide Training Session is scheduled to begin on November 10 and run through December 01st when those who have been successful can receive a full scholarship to HACC to complete Clinical studies on site at a nursing home. Our first Clinical graduates will be ready for employment by December 19, 2008. The Employment Skills Center will continue to be an integral part of our graduates employment journey as we coach them to apply for and successfully obtain employment. Once employed we will continue to work with them, as needed, to see that they are applying the skills that they learned in their Pre-Clinical phase to the workplace. We normally continue to receive updates from our new nurse aides for a year or more.
Applications are accepted at the front desk. You will then be asked to complete a basic reading and math test to determine your academic level (minimum passing score is 5th grade level). You will complete a Criminal Background search that should show no felonies and no misdemeanors in certain categories (ask for more information during your interview). After testing an interview will be held with a manager and an instructor after which time you will be informed of our decision to accept you.
Once successfully completing the Pre-Clinical Phase I you will receive a scholarship to enter Clinicals which will lead to your permission to obtain employment in the healthcare field followed by your State Examination (also a scholarship for your successful completion of Clinical studies).
